NATIONAL DAY OF THE COWBOY

Saturday, July 25, 2026

National Day of the Cowboy rides into view every fourth Saturday in July, celebrating the iconic figure who shaped the American West. This day honors their enduring legacy, from their work ethic and self-reliance to their contributions to art, music, and film. Dust off your boots, learn about their history, and embrace the spirit of the frontier.

As National Day of the Cowboy approaches, look for special events and promotions from brands deeply rooted in Western heritage. While specific 2027 deals are still to be announced, expect retailers like Wrangler and Ariat to offer discounts on apparel and footwear. Western wear boutiques, feed stores, and tack shops may host local celebrations or sales. The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum often features special exhibits or online content. Look for local rodeos or cowboy poetry gatherings to offer special ticket pricing or merchandise.

Celebrate National Day of the Cowboy at Joslyn! Slip on your boots, top them off with your favorite western hat, and join Colleen on Tuesday for Line Dancing for Beginners!

Colleen will teach several fun, easy-to-learn line dances, so no dance experience is needed. Whether you're a first-timer or just looking to have a great time, this energetic class is the perfect way to celebrate. This has been a popular class since it was started, so an additional day will be added beginning August 4! So, grab your partner—or come solo—and git along and git on the dance floor! We can't wait to see you there!

If you want something a bit more adventurous, head off to the city of Norco, which is just about a 90-minute drive west of Joslyn Center, and experience the Day of the American Cowboy Rodeo. Who is ready to RODEO?! Dust off your cowboy hat, boots and western apparel, and get ready to celebrate National Day of the American Cowboy at the City of Norco’s action-packed, family-fun Rodeo, which will include Bull Riding, Bronc Riding, Barrel Racing, Break-Away Roping, Team Roping, Mutton Busting and more!

END SENIOR HUNGER CAMPAIGN

EVERY GIFT DOUBLED THROUGH JULY 31ST!

Dear Joslyn Center Members and Friends,

Thanks to the generosity and leadership of the Joslyn Center Board of Directors, we are pleased to announce that our End Senior Hunger Campaign has been extended through July 31—and for a limited time, your donation can have twice the impact.

Recognizing the growing need for nutrition services in our community, members of our Board have stepped forward to establish a Matching Gift Challenge. Every dollar donated to the End Senior Hunger Campaign through July 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to the amount of the Board's matching fund.

This is an incredible opportunity to make your generosity go even further.

While many of our members are away during the summer months, the needs of the seniors we serve continue every day. The Joslyn Center's nutrition programs—including Let's Do Lunch, Lunch & Learn, Morning Bites on Mondays, and our Community Food Bank—provide healthy meals and food assistance to older adults who rely on us throughout the year.

The demand for these services continues to grow, making this campaign more important than ever. Your gift will help ensure that seniors in our community continue to receive the nourishment, care, and support they deserve.

If you have already contributed to this year's campaign, please accept our sincere gratitude. Your generosity is already making a meaningful difference.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to participate, there has never been a better time. Every dollar you give before July 31 will be doubled, allowing your contribution to provide twice as many meals and twice as much support to local seniors in need.

Together, we can ensure that no older adult in our community goes hungry.

Thank you for your continued generosity and your belief in the mission of the Joslyn Center. We are deeply grateful for your support.

With sincere appreciation,

John Brennan

Executive Director

The Joslyn Center

The Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Taste of Summer Rancho Mirage, July 23 until August 16. This is an annual community tradition that brings people together to enjoy local flavors while supporting local restaurants during the slower summer months and helping raise funds for local nonprofits. Residents and visitors will enjoy delicious food, cool treats, and great specials.

Many Rancho Mirage restaurants are participating by offering discounts or specials on dining. Click on the link below to visit the Taste of Summer website and see all of the local restaurants where you can get sizzling specials, refreshing treats, and unforgettable local dining experiences.

To get these great discounts, you will need to purchase a Taste of Summer wristband for $10. You may get these at the front desk at Joslyn Center or at many other local nonprofits. Proceeds from all wristbands purchased at Joslyn will stay at Joslyn and go to support the programs and services that we offer. All of this means that saving on Rancho Mirage dining will also benefit the Joslyn Center!
