NATIONAL DOLE WHIP® DAY
Thursday, July 16, 2026
| | |
We are on a mission to encourage everyone to try a true-to-fruit-soft serve because Thursday is National Dole Whip® Day! Each year on the third Thursday in July, we share our love for the fruity-licious flavor it brings to people around the world.
The frozen dairy-free treat Dole Whip® has been around since 1984. In fact, the original Dole Whip® consisted of a float of whip in a glass of pineapple juice, topped with a maraschino cherry. This frozen fruitiness was first introduced at Disneyland in 1986 and has been a favorite since. We think National Dole Whip® Day is the perfect day to enjoy a creamy soft-serve cup of fruitopia.
The Dole Whip® has had many transformations over the years. The original pineapple flavor is still the most popular, but eight additional fruit flavors are now available. They are mango, lemon, orange, raspberry, strawberry, lime, cherry, and watermelon.
In addition to the variety of flavors to choose from, Dole Whip® is a vegan treat, too. In fact, this treat is low-fat, gluten-free, dairy-free, and cholesterol-free, making it only 80 calories. The evidence is in. Dole Whip® definitely has unanimously earned the right to be the most popular treat for Disney vacationers.

You don't need to make a trip to a Disney park to get a
Dole Whip®. You can visit Lappert's Super Premium Ice Cream, which is on Highway 111, just a few blocks from Joslyn Center. This cool treat will taste just perfect on a hot summer day!

JOSLYN MEMBERS 4TH OF JULY BBQ
Thursday, July 2, 2026
| | |
On behalf of all of us at Joslyn, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual 4th of July BBQ. It was wonderful to celebrate the holiday with so many of our members, and we truly appreciate everyone who came out to make the event so special.
We would also like to recognize our incredible sponsors and volunteers, whose generosity and support helped make this event a success:

Thank you to Desert Oasis Healthcare (DOHC) and Bilhartz Desert Insurance Agency for sponsoring the event, to Bilhartz's Julie Sarmiento and her husband, Gregory Hearn, for working the grill, to Atria Palm Desert for providing dessert, and to Peter and Teen Camp participants from Family YMCA of the Desert for serving up grilled burgers, hot dogs, and potato salad.
Their partnerships and commitment to our community are greatly appreciated. Finally, I would like to give a very special thank you to two of our amazing programs: Lunch Bunch Quilting Club and Knit & Crochet Club. The talented ladies from these groups generously donated their time, creativity, and craftsmanship to create two beautiful handmade raffle prizes. Their dedication and artistic work added such a meaningful touch to our celebration, and the finished pieces were absolutely stunning. As you can see from the photos, their raffle prizes turned out beautifully and were admired by everyone who attended. We are incredibly grateful for the time, effort, and love that went into creating them. Several other raffle prizes were offered and some lucky guests won more than once!
Thank you once again to our sponsors, our talented volunteers, and everyone who attended. Your support and participation are what make our Joslyn community so special. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!

It's the time of year when Joslyn Center reaches out to our friends and donors to support nutrition service programs for older adults at risk for food insecurity. These programs include the Joslyn Community Food Bank, Morning Bites and other programs throughout the year for our members. Your donation helps ensure that we can continue to fight hunger right here in the Coachella Valley.
The campaign annually takes place at the end of season and helps support these critical services in our community during the hottest months of the year. Please consider a donation of any amount and click below to contribute.

The Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Taste of Summer Rancho Mirage, July 23 until August 16. This is an annual community tradition that brings people together to enjoy local flavors while supporting local restaurants during the slower summer months and helping raise funds for local nonprofits. Residents and visitors will enjoy delicious food, cool treats, and great specials.
Many Rancho Mirage restaurants are participating by offering discounts or specials on dining. Click on the link below to visit the Taste of Summer website and see all of the local restaurants where you can get sizzling specials, refreshing treats, and unforgettable local dining experiences.
| |
To get these great discounts, you will need to purchase a Taste of Summer wristband for $10. You may get these at the front desk at Joslyn Center or at many other local nonprofits. Proceeds from all wristbands purchased at Joslyn will stay at Joslyn and go to support the programs and services that we offer. All of this means that saving on Rancho Mirage dining will also benefit the Joslyn Center!
| | The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is holding their Annual Backpack Bonanza to collect new backpacks and school supplies for local students. Joslyn Center is helping out by having a box in our lobby where you may place any donations until August 3. Please see the flyer for the most needed supplies. | | THIS WEEK'S ACTIVITIES AND HIGHLIGHTS | | |
