NATIONAL WATERPARK DAY

Tuesday, July 28, 2026

If there’s one occasion that people in the U.S. look forward to, it’s National Waterpark Day on July 28. Undoubtedly, a trip to the local waterpark is one of the best ways of spending your summer. There are plenty of rides suitable for different ages, so there’s something for the whole family to enjoy. The end of July is synonymous with poolside, wave pools, and eighty-foot-tall slides mounted on steel towers. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a lazy vacationer, waterparks have something for every taste. Nothing beats being in the water to cool off during the summer, especially during the hot temperatures that we are having now!

As you splash around the water rides, you’ll experience lots of fun and laughter. It’s the perfect way to stay cool on those sweltering summer days while creating fun memories with your friends and family. What’s more, many water parks these days (even the small ones) are all-in-one resorts, with spas and hotels to boot. Don’t miss out on the fun this summer — there’s plenty of time to make plans for this year’s National Waterpark Day.

Maybe you should plan on visiting the Palm Desert Aquatic Center to celebrate. They are located just a few minutes away from Joslyn Center. In addition to the Water Exercise classes that you see below, you can just hang out in the recreational pool, do some lap swimming or show off your skills on the diving boards. Looking for something a little more adventurous? Try the water slides, rope swing, or even the rock climbing wall or water obstacle course. You can even attend the Dive-In Movie Nights and watch a great movie while you float in the pool. However you choose to celebrate National Waterpark Day, it will certainly be a great way to beat the summer heat.

END SENIOR HUNGER CAMPAIGN

EVERY GIFT DOUBLED THROUGH JULY 31ST!

Dear Joslyn Center Members and Friends,

Thanks to the generosity and leadership of the Joslyn Center Board of Directors, we are pleased to announce that our End Senior Hunger Campaign has been extended through July 31—and for a limited time, your donation can have twice the impact.

Recognizing the growing need for nutrition services in our community, members of our Board have stepped forward to establish a Matching Gift Challenge. Every dollar donated to the End Senior Hunger Campaign through July 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to the amount of the Board's matching fund.

This is an incredible opportunity to make your generosity go even further.

While many of our members are away during the summer months, the needs of the seniors we serve continue every day. The Joslyn Center's nutrition programs—including Let's Do Lunch, Lunch & Learn, Morning Bites on Mondays, and our Community Food Bank—provide healthy meals and food assistance to older adults who rely on us throughout the year.

The demand for these services continues to grow, making this campaign more important than ever. Your gift will help ensure that seniors in our community continue to receive the nourishment, care, and support they deserve.

If you have already contributed to this year's campaign, please accept our sincere gratitude. Your generosity is already making a meaningful difference.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to participate, there has never been a better time. Every dollar you give before July 31 will be doubled, allowing your contribution to provide twice as many meals and twice as much support to local seniors in need.

Together, we can ensure that no older adult in our community goes hungry.

Thank you for your continued generosity and your belief in the mission of the Joslyn Center. We are deeply grateful for your support.

With sincere appreciation,

John Brennan

Executive Director

The Joslyn Center

The Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Taste of Summer Rancho Mirage, July 23 until August 16. This is an annual community tradition that brings people together to enjoy local flavors while supporting local restaurants during the slower summer months and helping raise funds for local nonprofits. Residents and visitors will enjoy delicious food, cool treats, and great specials.

Many Rancho Mirage restaurants are participating by offering discounts or specials on dining. Click on the link below to visit the Taste of Summer website and see all of the local restaurants where you can get sizzling specials, refreshing treats, and unforgettable local dining experiences.

To get these great discounts, you will need to purchase a Taste of Summer wristband for $10. You may get these at the front desk at Joslyn Center or at many other local nonprofits. Proceeds from all wristbands purchased at Joslyn will stay at Joslyn and go to support the programs and services that we offer. All of this means that saving on Rancho Mirage dining will also benefit the Joslyn Center!

The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is holding their Annual Backpack Bonanza to collect new backpacks and school supplies for local students. Joslyn Center is helping out by having a box in our lobby where you may place any donations until August 3. Please see the flyer for the most needed supplies. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!
