NATIONAL ICE CREAM CONE DAY

Tuesday, September 22, 2026

National Ice Cream Cone Day celebrates the brilliant invention that lets us enjoy ice cream without the mess every September 22. Grab your favorite flavor in a waffle, sugar, or wafer cone. Indulge in this sweet treat and share your perfect scoop with friends and family!

Charles R. Menches is widely credited with inventing the ice cream cone at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. Legend has it that when an ice cream vendor ran out of dishes, Menches, a waffle vendor, rolled his waffles into cones to hold the ice cream. This ingenious solution quickly became a sensation, forever changing how people enjoyed their frozen treats.

We'll be celebrating National Ice Cream Cone Day at Joslyn Center on Tuesday this week! Please come by to get an ice cream cone for yourself. This is only happening from 11:30am-12:30pm in the lobby. If you miss out on that, please join us the following week for the Ice Cream Social, brought to us by the generosity of Julie at Bilhartz Desert insurance Agency. Bilhartz has been a Business Partner of ours for many years and also provides the monthly Birthday Bash cake, which you can have and eat it too on the third Tuesday of each month!

WITH SHARYN

Tuesday, September 22, 1:30pm

Abandoned by her mother one Christmas Eve, eleven-year-old Meg Lefleur has learned the hard way to rely on no one. Now one of the unadoptable "big girls" at the Lafayette County Orphan Asylum, she fights each day to keep her spirit unbowed.

Birdie Calhoun, unmarried and outspoken, has come to Oxford to ask her socialite sister to help the struggling family she’s left behind. But as the Depression tightens its grip, Birdie discovers her sister’s seemingly charmed life is a tapestry of lies.

Then, Birdie encounters Charlie, a woman running low on luck with little left to lose. When their fates—and Meg’s—converge, Charlie comes up with an audacious plan for them to take control of their lives. But in a place and time where hypocrisy is rife and women’s freedom is fragile, even the smallest act of defiance can have dangerous consequences.
