NATIONAL PET ROCK DAY

Sunday, September 7, 2025

The first Sunday in September marks National Pet Rock Day each year, this year on September 7. For those who don’t know what they are, what rock have you been hiding under? Not a pet rock for sure. Pet rocks are extraordinary pets adopted by hundreds across the country. You might wonder why someone would keep a rock as a pet. Well, think about it. Rocks don’t need grooming, they don’t require visits to the vet, they don’t eat, never get sick, and, best of all — they never die! Amazing right? Read on to see what else makes these pets so special.

Sue Abramowitz will be back this week for another Rock Painting class. Expect to immerse yourself in a world of vibrant colors, intricate designs, and endless possibilities as you transform ordinary rocks into miniature masterpieces! Unleash your imagination, whether you're a seasoned artist or a first-time painter. Sue will teach you the essential rock-painting techniques.

At this class you will be able to tap into your artistic side and express yourself through personalized rock art as well as connect with fellow creative souls in a relaxed and inspiring environment. When it's all over, you'll take home your unique creations to adorn your space or share as heartfelt gifts.

The class will be this Thursday, September 4 at 10:00am. Please bring your own brushes and get ready to rock the paintbrush like never before. There are limited spaces for this class so please reserve your spot today by calling 760-340-3220 or sign up at the front desk.

SPOTLIGHT ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

FREE BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS

Mondays, 11:00am-Noon

Do you worry if your blood pressure might be a little too high? Nurse Jackie will be happy to check and make sure that you are in the recommended range. Jackie was a nurse for well over 30 years and is now happily retired. She volunteers her time here at Joslyn because she wants to contribute to the health of our community and to keep her skills and medical knowledge active. Even if you're nervous about getting your reading, Jackie will put you at ease and probably give you some health tips for your general overall health. She loves to encourage people to follow a healthy path, because life can get too complicated sometimes.

Nurse Jackie is here on Mondays from 11:00am until noon. You can make an appointment at the front desk or even just show up in the lobby.
