May 25-31, 2026

The National Moment of Remembrance was established by Congress in 2000 to encourage all Americans to pause for one minute at 3:00 PM on Memorial Day, wherever they are, to honor and reflect on the service members who died for our country. This brief moment is a collective act of respect and reflection, honoring the memory of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have given their lives for our freedom.

EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE!

California's Primary Election Day is coming up on Tuesday, June 2. Every registered voter should have received a mail-in ballot by now. If that is your preferred voting method, it is recommended that you mail your ballot by Tuesday, May 26 to ensure that it is counted.

If you are unable to mail it by then, there are any number of places to drop off your ballot as well as early voting locations that are now open. The drop-off locations closest to Joslyn Center are Palm Desert City Hall, Portola Community Center, Palm Desert Greens, and Palm Desert Community Center. The early voting locations closest to Joslyn Center are Palm Desert Community Center and Palm Desert Greens.

Eligible citizens who need to register or re-register to vote within 14 days of an election can complete this process at their county elections office, polling place, or vote center. Their ballots will be processed and counted once the county elections office has completed the voter registration verification process. This may be done now at early voting locations and at polling locations on Election Day.

To find the drop-off location, early voting location and Election Day location nearest to you, please click the button below for the California Secretary of State website. To maintain a healthy democracy, everyone should exercise their right to vote!

NATIONAL SENIOR HEALTH & FITNESS DAY

Wednesday, May 27, 2026

National Senior Health & Fitness Day is celebrated on the last Wednesday of May, this year on May 27. It is a day dedicated to the betterment of the health of seniors. The common goal is to help senior Americans stay fit and healthy. Numerous organizations around the country organize events to spread the word about the importance of eldercare and the various ways of doing it. There are also local events organized at neighborhood parks, gyms, and other similar places.

National Senior Health & Fitness Day is celebrated every year on the last Wednesday of May as part of the Older Americans Month activities. The day is commemorated by the Mature Market Resource Center, a national-level clearinghouse organization for the older adults market in collaboration with various non-profit organizations and private NGOs. National Senior Health & Fitness Day is the largest health and wellness movement for seniors in the U.S.

It is high time that we explore the various options of physical activity available for our seniors and acknowledge the importance of nutrition and exercise for the prevention of ill health. A healthy diet boosts immunity and energy while regular exercise retains bone mass and lowers the risk of fractures as well as that of any other disease or condition.

National Senior Health & Fitness Day is celebrated in over 1,200 locations including senior centers, recreation centers, hospitals, health clubs, health departments, retirement communities, and more. Local health and senior organizations organize, sponsor, and host events with the help, guidance, and aid of the Mature Market Resource Center team. Different kinds of popular programs are held at such events, like group exercises, walking tours, health fairs, and many more.
