NATIONAL HOT CHOCOLATE DAY

Saturday, January 31, 2026

Few beverages are as deep-rooted in culture of Americans’ collective childhood quite like hot chocolate. This drink reminds us of rainy days, skiing, sledding, or even a quiet day watching the snow fall. It’s thick, silky, toasty, and usually smothered in whipped cream or topped with mini marshmallows—no other drink brings warmth to our lives and tastebuds quite like hot chocolate. Cozy up with your favorite mug because on January 31, we celebrate National Hot Chocolate Day, a day devoted to our favorite chocolate beverage.

We want you to indulge and celebrate this day all week when you are at Joslyn Center! Take a day (or two or three) off from your morning coffee and have a cup of hot chocolate instead. We will have packets with and without mini-marshmallows that you can pick up at the front desk. Hot water is always available on the coffer brewer just inside the kitchen door.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

The Pull of the Stars is a 2020 historical fiction novel by Emma Donoghue. It is set in a Dublin maternity ward during the 1918 influenza pandemic, focusing on a nurse, a doctor, and a volunteer over three intense days as they navigate the crisis, loss, and unexpected connections. The story follows Nurse Julia Power, the rebellious Dr. Kathleen Lynn, and young volunteer Bridie Sweeney as they work in a quarantined ward, dealing with the overwhelming illness and the backdrop of war. The novel is praised for its humanity, historical detail, and its timely themes of care and survival, and it was published earlier than planned due to its relevance to the COVID-19 pandemic.
