NATIONAL GRIEF AWARENESS DAY

Saturday, August 30, 2025

This National Grief Awareness Day on August 30 is dedicated to raising awareness of the myriad ways in which individuals cope with loss. It offers resources to those going through personal losses and reminds us to support people we know who are grieving. National Grief Awareness Day, founded by Angie Cartwright in 2014, hopes to encourage open communication on loss and bereavement and better inform the public on the facts of grief.

The Adult Bereavement Support Group is part of the Joslyn Wellness Center's commitment to enhancing emotional well-being. This supportive group provides a safe and compassionate space to process grief and loss with others who understand. Led by Family Hospice Care, the group focuses on sound practices and proven techniques to help you navigate the challenges of bereavement. Through guided discussions, coping strategies, and shared experiences, participants will learn how to manage grief, honor their loved ones, and move forward with hope and resilience. Whether you're grieving the loss of a loved one, a life transition, or other forms of loss, this group will provide the tools and encouragement you need during this difficult time. This class is open to adults seeking support and guidance through the journey of loss. No prior experience in bereavement groups is necessary. Please register ahead of time by calling 760-674-3344.

Last Wednesday, Savannah Ortega from Jewish Family Service was here with another session of Let's Do Lunch. All of the participants got to watch a very interesting and informative documentary all about Borneo and take a quiz on it afterward. Did you know that Borneo is shared by three countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei? Did you know that orangutans are not natural swimmers or that the sun bear is the smallest species of bear in the world? How about that Borneo lowland rainforest covers the largest portion of Borneo, encompassing about 57% of the island's land area below 1,000 meters in elevation? These are all facts that you would have learned about while dining on a wonderful box lunch from Aspen Mills.

Let's Do Lunch is at Joslyn Center the first and third Wednesday of each month. Call Savannah to sign up. Come hungry for knowledge—and maybe even a little lunch! Registration is required. 760-325-4088 x123.
