Dear Joslyn Center Members & Supporters,

For more than 45 years, The Joslyn Center has been a place where older adults come together to stay active, healthy, connected, and engaged. That mission remains at the heart of every decision we make.

As many of you know, nonprofit organizations across the country are facing significant financial challenges. Like many of our peers, The Joslyn Center has experienced reductions in grant funding and other sources of financial support that have historically helped sustain some of our programs and staffing. At the same time, the cost of providing quality services continues to rise.

Over the past two fiscal years, we have operated with budget deficits, relying on our financial reserves to bridge the gap between revenues and expenses. While those reserves have allowed us to continue serving our members without interruption, they are intended for unforeseen circumstances and long-term organizational stability—not to support ongoing operating deficits. Continuing to rely on them is simply not sustainable.

After careful consideration, our Board of Directors and leadership team have made the difficult decision to realign certain staff positions and reduce hours in some areas of the organization. These decisions were not made lightly. They reflect the unfortunate reality that several positions were funded through grants and revenue sources that are no longer available.

These changes are part of a broader effort to ensure that The Joslyn Center remains financially healthy and able to fulfill its mission for many years to come. Throughout this process, our priority has been to preserve the programs and services that matter most to our members while operating within our available resources.

Please know that we are not standing still. We are actively pursuing new grant opportunities, strengthening relationships with individual donors and corporate partners, expanding fundraising efforts, exploring new revenue-generating opportunities, and building more sustainable sources of funding that will reduce our dependence on short-term grants. Our goal is to create a stronger financial foundation that allows The Joslyn Center to continue serving our community well into the future.

While organizational changes can be difficult, they also provide an opportunity to strengthen our operations, improve efficiency, and ensure that every dollar entrusted to us has the greatest possible impact. We remain committed to delivering the welcoming atmosphere, high-quality programs, wellness services, educational opportunities, and community connections that you have come to expect from The Joslyn Center.
