NO BRAINER DAY
Thursday, February 27, 2025
| |
No Brainer Day, observed on February 27, is a lighthearted holiday that encourages people to take a break from demanding mental tasks and engage in activities that don't require much thought. The purpose is to have fun and to give the brain a rest. Take some time on this day to check out from complicated situations and do everything that’s simple and easy. Why? Because it’s time to enjoy No Brainer Day!
No Brainer Day suggests we take a break to "rest our brains." In our modern world, especially in western culture, we certainly need ways to do this! In addition to trying it just this one day, there are well studied and proven ways to enable our brains to rest nearly all the time. Mindfulness & Meditation are two wonderful paths to a calm brain as well as increased health, improved mood, contentment, and more. They both teach us to live in the present moment - this moment - rather than rehashing the past and worrying about the future. If you are open to learning and trying something new, these 2 practices can support meaningful change. These practices are simple - though not easy - and even a small amount can make a big difference.
If all that sounds good to you and you'd like to to it, please make a reservation to join the next Mindfulness & How To Meditate class starting on March 4. Just call Jackie at our Wellness Center to get signed up. 760-895-4656.

CV GIVING DAY
Tuesday, March 4, 2025
| |
CV Giving Day brings the Coachella Valley together as one community, raising money and awareness for our local nonprofits during a 24-hour online giving challenge on March 4, 2025. It inspires people to give generously to nonprofits making our desert region stronger and creating a thriving community for all. |
Early giving began February 4th, and Joslyn Center is once again seeking funds for our Outdoor Pickleball Court Campaign. Two courts are paid for at $45,000 each from two generous donors, and we are seeking to close the gap on the remaining $37,165 for the third court. No gift is too big or too small, and if your gift is large enough, we might just name the court after you!

MARCH VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB WITH BOB
Monday, March 10, 2:00pm
| |
New Bremen, Minnesota, 1961. The Twins were playing their debut season, ice-cold root beers were selling out at the soda counter of Halderson’s Drugstore, and Hot Stuff comic books were a mainstay on every barbershop magazine rack. It was a time of innocence and hope for a country with a new, young president. But for thirteen-year-old Frank Drum it was a grim summer in which death visited frequently and assumed many forms. Accident. Nature. Suicide. Murder.
Frank begins the season preoccupied with the concerns of any teenage boy, but when tragedy unexpectedly strikes his family—which includes his Methodist minister father; his passionate, artistic mother; Juilliard-bound older sister; and wise-beyond-his-years kid brother—he finds himself thrust into an adult world full of secrets, lies, adultery, and betrayal, suddenly called upon to demonstrate a maturity and gumption beyond his years.
Told from Frank’s perspective forty years after that fateful summer, Ordinary Grace is a brilliantly moving account of a boy standing at the door of his young manhood, trying to understand a world that seems to be falling apart around him. It is an unforgettable novel about discovering the terrible price of wisdom and the enduring grace of God.
