International Stage Management Day recognizes the crucial work of stage managers every October 10. These dedicated professionals ensure seamless productions, from theater to concerts, coordinating every detail behind the scenes. Take a moment to appreciate their meticulous planning and quick problem-solving, and consider supporting local arts organizations.
International Stage Management Day Hero: Harriet 'Hattie' Bessent was a trailblazing African American stage manager, known for her extensive work on Broadway and with the Negro Ensemble Company. Her career spanned decades, breaking barriers and setting standards for professionalism in the field. Bessent's meticulous approach and calm demeanor were legendary, making her an invaluable asset to countless productions and a mentor to many aspiring stage managers.
New Stage Management is on it's way to the Arthur Newman Theatre at The Joslyn Center! In honor of the spirit of collaboration that makes live theatre possible, THE SCENE, a new performance venue at the Arthur Newman Theatre, opens October 25 at 3 p.m. with an Improv Extravaganza!
From there, we’ll bring you new improv shows featuring talented local improvisers approximately every other Sunday. Every show is made in the moment, full of surprises, and completely unique. Never the same show twice!
But that’s not all! THE SCENE is also committed to highlighting new and original work. On December 6, we’re proud to present a brand-new, original play written and directed by our very own Keith Hoffman. From spontaneous laughter to fresh, original storytelling, THE SCENE is creating a home for creativity, connection, and unexpected theatrical adventures right here in the Coachella Valley.
