Meals on Wheels and Penny's Pantry
The Joslyn Center believes that no senior should go hungry.
Through no fault of their own, many of our local seniors are without enough food to meet their daily nutritional requirements. By providing home-bound, frail and low income seniors access to healthy and nutritious food on a consistent basis, seniors may be able to remain independent in their own homes longer and with dignity. In addition, as a result of an increase in their nutritional intake, seniors may experience a reduction or lessening of catastrophic health issues and stave off depression with a connection to the helping hand and caring heart of The Joslyn Center.
Healthy and nutritious meals are critical to the lives of seniors. The Joslyn Center provides two ways to meet the critical needs of hungry seniors: Meals on Wheels and Penny’s Pantry food programs.
Since its inception in November 2011, our food pantry has and continues to serve thousands of low income seniors each year with non-perishable foods and fresh produce.
Penny’s Pantry is located on The Joslyn Center campus and is open on the first and third Fridays of each month from 7:30 to 9:30 AM. Those receiving food are asked to be 50 years of age and above, live within one of the Cove Community Cities: City of Indian Wells, City of Palm Desert, and City of Rancho Mirage, and complete a brief questionnaire.
If you would like to help us stock the pantry, please click and print Penny's Pantry Donation List of Needs the next time you go shopping.
Meals on Wheels
“I have been blessed this year to have Meals on Wheels in my life. As I age I find many of the things I was able to do, I no longer do. Your program has helped me stay in my own home with dignity” -Meals on Wheels recipient
More than just a meal…Meals on Wheels means much more to home-bound, frail seniors than just a nutritious meal.
Many home bound seniors are far removed from family and other daily social relationships. Often, our friendly volunteer drivers are the only outside contact they will receive each day. The friendships that are created between the volunteers and seniors are meaningful and valuable.
